Kim Milliken is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from Texas State University and a Master’s of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University – Central Texas. She came to counseling later in life but has spent her entire adult career in the service of helping others in various forms and firmly believes in the importance of feeling safe, heard and validated especially in a therapeutic, and oftentimes vulnerable, space.

To that end, she embraces the person-centered approach and primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help people transform negative thinking patterns into a more positive and life-affirming outlook. She employs a variety of techniques including solution-focused therapy, positive psychology, and a strengths based approach to problem solving.

She has worked in non-profits with the indigent population providing diagnostic services, crisis triage and both individual and group counseling services to adolescents and adults. Common issues she has worked with include schizophrenia (CBTp trained), depression, anxiety, bipolar, behavioral issues, relational issues, suicidal ideations, anger control issues, trauma and abuse, adjustment disorders, self-harm, poor self-esteem, coping skills and stress management.

In her spare time, Kim enjoys spending time with her two dogs, friends and family. She also loves reading, gardening, true crime, traveling, swimming and cooking.
